Teaching a Global Campus Course

Getting Started: I’ve been asked to teach a Global Campus course

Unlike other WSU campuses, Global Campus uses one system, Jira, that keeps track of crucial course information to meet the unique legal and accreditation requirements for an online course. Please note that our email communications will come with the following text included in the subject line: “Academic Outreach & Innovation Service Desk Course Verification”.

This page will provide you with a high level overview of that process.

  1. Course space is created. Our Course Production team will copy a prior — typically department approved — version of the course.
  2. Confirm version. Your assigned Course Production contact will email you (via our workflow management application – Jira) and ask you to complete our Course Verification process. This begins with the “Cloning” step in which you will review and confirm the correct version of the course was used in your space. Most departments require chair approval to make major changes to their Global Campus courses, so you will likely just need to review and confirm all content.
  3. Confirm details. Through the Course Verification process you will need to confirm information for key components of your course. You will receive three separate emails inquiring about textbooks, media, and proctored exams. You will also have a method to ask for minor updates through General Maintenance.
A workflow with 4 boxes. The first box on the left reads "Course scheduled in myWSU. Course space is created." An arrow leads to the second box, with the text "Confirm version copied into online course space." Arrows lead from that box to two vertically aligned boxes on the far right side. The upper box reads "Confirm details for textbook, media, and proctored exams" and the lower reads "Request any minor updates via General Maintenance"

Time

Course Verification usually starts several months before the semester begins, in order to allow ample time for faculty response. Additionally, we are obligated to provide financial obligations to students as early as possible, preferably at the time of registration. For instance, the textbook information is typically due 12 weeks prior to the first day of class.

Note

Canvas spaces will automatically go live the Friday before the start of the course.
