Developing an Online Course

Introduction

In the eyes of our students, you are the single most important aspect of the educational experience. Our goal is to help you re-create your high quality on-campus instruction in an online classroom. We recognize that instructors have their own unique style and personality. We will try to design the online environment that best fits your style while staying, as much as possible, within a template already familiar to students.

Three critical components of a successful online course are:

  • Engage the students with the content, instructor and one another, which creates an online learning community.
  • Create a sense of “presence” for both students and instructors.
  • Provide timely and frequent feedback to students.

(Moore, M.G. (1989). Three types of interaction. The American Journal of Distance Education, 3(2), 1-6.)

Your Instructional Designer will help you develop and deliver a course that meets these three expectations. You can learn more about the pedagogy related to teaching online in the Teaching Online Certification Course
